🔬 Outreach opportunity as work experience students join us for a week August 2026
Two talented high school students join us for their holidays to get a taste of life in a research lab and hands-on experience of bacterial biology, microscopy and protein science. We hope they enjoy their time with us and leave inspired by a career in science!
☀️ Welcome to Jasmine and Daisy! 6 July 2026
Two outstanding undergraduate students, Jasmine and Daisy have joined us for the summer to get hands-on experience in research and explore the world of bacterial cell biology. It will be wonderful to have the fresh perspective in the lab. Keep a look out for their blog posts!
✨ Happy New Year from the Webby Lab! 5 January 2026
We’re kicking off 2026 with lots of exciting science, new projects and plenty of experiments ahead. We’re looking forward to another year of exploring how bacteria build and maintain their cell envelopes!
🧬 New arrival alert! Dr Philip Smith and Dr Dominik Brotherton join the lab 1 December 2025
Phil and Dom have joined the group to get into some more single particle cryo-EM and cryo tomography. We’re delighted to have them on board and are looking forward to seeing where their projects take us!
🚪 We’re excited to welcome Dr Andrew McMahon to the lab!  3 November 2025
He successfully secured his own funding to join us for a few months. Andrew is a microscopy expert 🔬 and will be learning some new cloning and molecular biology techniques during his time here. We’re really looking forward to having him in the group!

🎉 Big News! 🎉   02 April 2025
The cat's out of the bag—we're officially heading to the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick in July 2025! 🚀
This incredible career milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance of my mentors, the support of my colleagues, and the generous backing of the Wellcome Trust. Excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to drive forward research into antimicrobial resistance (AMR)!
🚀 Exciting Publication Alert! 🚀 05 December 2025
We were honoured to be invited by npj Antimicrobials and Resistance to contribute a review article! Teaming up with the brilliant Jo Szczepaniak, we took a deep dive into the expanded roles of the Tol-Pal system in the bacterial cell envelope—going beyond its well-known function in envelope stabilisation.
